Trust seal setup

Getting your embed code

Once you're VERIFIED, go to Member Dashboard → Seal & Embed to copy your embed snippet. It's a single <img> tag pointing at your live, dynamic seal, there's nothing to download or host yourself. Paste it into your site's footer, your checkout page, or both.

Authorizing the domains it can appear on

The seal is domain-locked: it only renders as valid on domains you've explicitly authorized. Go to Member Dashboard → My Domains and add every domain and subdomain where you plan to embed it (for example both yoursite.com and checkout.yoursite.com if you use a separate cart platform) before you paste the snippet in. An unauthorized domain shows the seal as invalid rather than silently failing.

What ACTIVE vs VERIFIED means on the seal itself

ACTIVE means your membership is paid and in good standing but you haven't completed all three verification checks yet (identity, domain control, and policy checks). VERIFIED means all three passed. Only a VERIFIED seal can be embedded publicly, this is deliberate: the seal is a specific claim, not just "this person paid us."

Troubleshooting a seal that shows invalid

Three most common causes: the domain it's embedded on isn't in your authorized domains list yet, your membership has lapsed into past_due or a cure window (check Member Dashboard for the notice), or you copied an old embed snippet with a stale member ID. If none of those explain it, contact support below with your member ID and the domain it's on.

Application & verification

What you'll need before you start

Legal business name, founder/principal name, primary domain, and three live policy URLs: your refund policy, terms of service, and a working support contact (email or page). You'll also digitally sign the KBS Code of Conduct as the final step.

The three checks that make up verification

Identity (Layer 1): a short Stripe Identity session, government ID plus a selfie, processed directly by Stripe. KBS never stores the document itself. Domain control (Layer 2): we give you a DNS TXT record to add, and check for it automatically, proving you actually control the domain you're applying under. Policies (Layer 3): we confirm your refund, terms, and support URLs are live and substantive, not 404s or a single blank sentence.

Timeline

Domain and policy checks run automatically within moments of submitting. Identity verification via Stripe is usually instant once you complete the session. If a check fails, you'll see specifically which one and why, not a generic rejection.

If something doesn't pass

A failed check doesn't end your application. You'll get clear feedback on what to fix (for example, a refund policy URL that returned a 404) and can correct it and re-submit that specific check. Verification is also not one-and-done: KBS periodically re-checks that your policy URLs are still live, so keep them stable.

Billing & renewal

What you're billed

A one-time $500 verification fee, plus $997/year membership, charged together as $1,497 today. The whole $1,497 is refundable for 30 days, any reason, and refunded in full automatically if we decline your application. There's an optional $497/year add-on that puts a contact form on your public directory profile, so buyers can reach you directly through KBS. The form goes live once your verification is complete, since KBS only routes buyer enquiries to verified members. It's billed and cancelled separately from your core membership.

Managing payment methods and invoices

Member Dashboard → Billing shows your current plan, next renewal date, and invoice history. Payment method updates go through the same billing portal.

If a payment fails

A failed renewal moves your account to past_due, which opens a cure window rather than an immediate cutoff, you'll get an email with the deadline. If it isn't resolved by then, the account is suspended and the seal stops validating publicly, but your application evidence and history are kept, they're not deleted.

Rejoining after a lapse

If your membership lapses and you rejoin later, verification resets: you'll need to complete the checks again rather than picking up where you left off. This keeps the seal meaning the same thing for every business that holds one, active and current, not just "verified at some point in the past."
